The Stargazer Cast Iron story began in 2015 when housewares designer Peter Huntley, dissatisfied with the lack of quality and accountability in modern goods manufactured overseas, set out to build a product and a company that could be held to a higher standard. Convinced people should have access to high quality, well designed cast iron at a reasonable price, Huntley designed the first Stargazer skillet after six months, 21 designs, and several prototypes.
Stargazer's skillets begin their journey at the company's foundry, where domestically sourced, primarily recycled iron is melted at 2,800°F, refined, and poured into molds made of sand and clay. The raw castings are then sent to the machine shop, where they are individually loaded into a custom-built fixture and CNC machined across the entire interior surface, dialing in the optimal weight and thickness of each skillet. The skillets then undergo a meticulous hand finishing process, where craftsmen use a series of hand tools to grind and smooth any burrs or other artifacts, before undergoing a proprietary two-step surface finish treatment that yields the smooth, micro-textured cooking surface that has made Stargazer famous.
After a final inspection, each skillet is packed in a box made just a couple of miles down the road from the factory and shipped from Stargazer's headquarters in Allentown, PA. Stargazer cookware is built to last many lifetimes, with a lifetime warranty covering manufacturer defects.
